Fabric Fantasies ......

It may be curtains down at the glam couture mela but whoa what a show! The runway ablaze with fabric fantasies of every sort at the fantastical costume drama that was – Pearls Delhi Fashion Week.
Couture gurus can take a bow for all the design aces they wowed us with. Some left an afterglow...so we pinched them for all who enjoy a thing of beauty! Take a look --

The eternal elegance of black and white now has a new challenger – Off-White! Maestro Rohit Bal took this mildewed colour and turned it into something gorgeous, ethereal, feminine and surprisingly comfortable

He also did a Gudda at the couture gala, when he and his lissom ladies in white, ahem...off-white, veered off the ramp and jumped into a swimming pool!
The effect was stunning as the ruffled and layered dresses opened up like dewy flowers in water!

Desi boy Sabyasachi Mukherjee's, I Love My India, theme found an exemplary showstopper in actor Vidya Balan or rather the deep red and gold sari she wore.

The colour of passion and rich like Bengali sindoor with a fiery gold border, the sari bespoke the power of the sensual woman.

Manish Malhotra, Bollywood's blue-eyed designer, gave Indian dresses a Spanish tadka.

Their new avatar was a tango of cream and gold that was full-bodied. frilly, all aglow and very Flamenco.

Varun Bahl's sumptuous line ‘Anastasia Found' borrowed from the Tsars of Russia. He used a lot of soft velvets in rich jewel tones of maroon and burgundy. The accessories which took the cake, were the ornate blingy crowns.

Teaming the heavily brocaded sari with a corset gave the sari a contemporary chic with oodles of oomph!

Had he been born in a different era, J J Valaya would certainly have been
he couturier of kings! His designs are so extravagant, luxurious and indulgent that it's hard to pick just one favourite!

Inspired by Alika, a fictional courtesan, Valaya's line had elegant saris and lehengas paired with sexy cholis and long jackets. There were also short kurtas with skin-fit churidars.

The clothes clearly stole the show! Valaya's showstopper, actor Kangana Ranaut lovely as she looked, was completely eclipsed by the stunning wedding outfit she wore.

Hand embroidered on a gold custom woven fabric, the dress is studded with precious and semi-precious gemstones like onyx from Madagascar, Peruvian opals, fresh water pearls and garnets along with Swarovski crystals and antique metal.

The best thing about Anamika Khanna's collection had to be actor Anil Kapoor! The 50 plus star looked amazing in the spiffy outfit she designed for him. The simple black sherwani with white churidar never looked so good!

A single gem-studded jewellery pinned to the chest pocket gave Anil a suave elegance. You've got to admit, he looks Chakas!
