A Festive Touch on TV

With several Bollywood big budget, big starrer movies scheduled to be released in the coming days, maintaining the flavour of the festive season, the television industry also is gearing up to show the true spirit of the festivals. Keeping in mind that the Bollywood-hungry audience would be spending a lot of time hanging around at the big screen theatres, insiders from the TV industry say there is definitely special strategy to make sure that daily serials and soaps maintain a consistently high TRP rating.

Manasi Sapre, Programming Head at UTV Movies says that during the festival seasons, there may be situations due to which the TV watching pattern of the audience can get altered. She points out, “In the festive season, a lot of people travel, their schedules change. There are a lot of other entertainment activities as well.” Sapre also points out that it is the season when Bollywood movies create a lot of buzz. “Naturally, at our end, we also try to up our buzz factor. This year, we have a lot of thematic festivals lined up for Eid and Ganesh Chaturthi.”

Interestingly, on their channel, UTV Action, Salman Khan had been recently invited to do a promotional spot for Dabangg. A representative from the channel says, “This season, taking a cue from the macho Salman and his film, we are concentrating on action movies.”

Sukesh Motwani, Programming Head at ZEE says that while there is no apparent competition between TV and big screen during the festive months, as “they are two very different mediums”, there is definitely a lot of planning that is going on right now to make sure TRP rates get boosted during the upcoming days.

Motwani says, “There is a lot of activity both in our fiction and non-fiction shows. The revelry of the festive season is bound to be reflected in our shows. Broadcasting channels are supposed to reflect the spirit of the festivals.”

Manasi Sapre also feels that the ongoing season is the most important phase in a year for TV channels. She explains, “This is the peak season. We will be putting out all our premier elements on air. So, naturally, a lot of planning is going on behind the scenes.”

For the popular TV show Sanjog Se Bani Sangini, to usher in a lot of fun and celebrations this season, the producers have roped in Shweta Tiwari to kick up a storm on the dance floor to mark the wedding of Pihu (played by Additi Gupta). The dance extravaganza will run for almost a week to make sure the audience is tuned on to the show.

To mark Ganesh Chaturthi, the entire cast of Pavitra Rishta will be joined by Bollywood stars and gorgeous Marathi mulgis Sonali Bendre, Sonali Kulkarni, and Mahesh Manrekar for a star-stuuded Ganesh Maha Aarti. In fact, ZEE TV also invites Pavitra Rishta’s fans to actually join the fun-filled proceedings at Filmistan Studio on 9th September.

This festive season also gives an opportunity to watch two of your favourite superstars, Amitabh Bachchan and Salman Khan hosting their respective game shows. While there is a lot of speculation that both might kick off on the same day, Salman’s appearance on Bigg Boss 4 is already the talk of the town. Bachchan as the host on KBC 4 will definitely generate high TRPs.

Khurram, one of the top 18 contestants in SaReGaMaPa Singing Superstar, is happy that he will be joining in all the fun on the sets of the reality music show. He says, “This year will be a special Eid because I will be spending it with my new family here on the sets of SaReGaMaPa Singing Superstar.” Looks like, There is loads of fun to come both on the sets and off.
